Style

Chalet Cuckoo Clock

In addition to the traditional hand carved cuckoo clock; many of which feature animals and leaves, we offer a number of contemporary designs. You'd never know these contemporary clocks were cuckoo clocks until the top of the hour when a cuckoo bird appears and begins to cuckoo the hour.
Chalet style cases are also very popular. These clocks often include animated characters such as a man drinking beer, a wood chopper, moving waterwheel or moving animals, to name a few possibilities.

Movement

Cuckoo clocks are typically available with either a quartz movement, 1-day or 8-day movement. A quartz cuckoo clock is ideal for the busy individual who doesn't have the time to wind a clock on a daily or weekly basis.

Other cuckoo clocks are wound by a mechanical movement. Weights, often in the shape of pine cones or acorns operate the mechanical movement by pulling up the weights. Most cuckoo clocks are designed with either an 8-day or 1-day mechanical movement. 8-day cuckoo clocks must be wound once a week, 1-day cuckoo clocks provide between 24 and 30 hours of operating time before the weights must be pulled again.
Musical cuckoo clocks are available in all styles and movement choice. These clocks play a variety of tunes at the top of the hour. They generally cycle through either six or twelve different songs. Afraid the music will cause sleepless nights? Most clocks include a night-time shutoff and volume control.

Warranty

All quartz cuckoo clocks include a one year manufacturer's warranty. Mechanical cuckoo clocks include a two year warranty.

Romach und Haas Schone Aussicht Cuckoo Clock with 8 Day Movement

Combining the design of the earlier Rahmenuhr (Framed Clock) with the Bahnhusle (Railroad House), these clocks were very popular circa 1854. This clock takes the progression one step further by combining the beautiful, hand-painted Black Forest scene with the Chalet style. This intricate carving shows grape vines and leaves surrounding a Black Forest cottage with a pair of birds and their nest of eggs.

This particular clock is made in very small quantities entirely BY HAND. Each clock is painted individually by the artist Conny Haas deep in the Black Forest the same way it has been done for centuries. Owning this clock is your chance to take part in a long tradition of arts and crafts of the beautiful and mysterious Black Forest.

When the clock strikes the hour or half-hour the door opens, a cuckoo appears and calls along with the clocks gong strike.

This clock is hand made in the Black Forest in Germany. The mechanical brass movement is driven by two weights and time escapes with the tick of a traditional pendulum. The cuckoo call sound is made by two wooden whistles with bellows inside the clock case.

Design meets Cuckoo

Combining stylistic cues from centuries-old clock making with modern design, this clock is a real treasure. It fits perfectly in a very traditional or very modern decor. This fine clock features an animated cuckoo bird which appears and calls the hour and half hour. The sound is mechanically created using wooden whistles and bellows. This clock features a carved, wooden bird, shut-off switch and 2-year warranty.

This clock was made in the the Black Forest of Germany and is certified by the VDS.

This is a beautiful and lovingly crafted piece is part of a new series of art works by artists and designers of the Black Forest in Germany. The “ART CLOCKS” are each one-of-a-kind pieces, signed by the artist.

In 1640 the “Waaguhr” was the first mechanical clock that was affordable by the new middle class in Europe. Its simple design allowed for only one hand indicating the hours. The average person of the Seventeenth Century measured time with only three times of day:sunrise, high noon, and sunset.

The Verge and Foliot escapement is the earliest known method of advancing the beat in mechanical clocks. It’s use further developed mechanical clocks, and is a very important step in the history of technology.

The mechanism of this clock is made of wood and is powered by a roughly hewn rock from the Black Forest. Cuckoo clocks are available with a variety of features. Traditional clocks are available with quartz, one-day or eight-day movements. Occasionally, other movements are available. Also available are musical, non-musical (cuckoo bird only) and cuckoo clocks with special effects. Case styles are generally referred to as carved or chalet style.

A quartz cuckoo clock runs on batteries. These clocks often feature nighttime shutoff with light sensor and recorded sound.

One-day cuckoo clocks require that the clock be wound once a day. This is accomplished by pulling one of the two weights. A pendulum helps regulate the time.

A variety of special effects are also available. This can range from turning waterwheels, kissing couples, figures raising their hand to drink beer, moving wood choppers or smoke coming out of the chimney. The more effects, the higher the price.
